Morning on Headley Heath.

After processing my moth trap adjacent to Headley Heath this morning I took a walk there for the first time in a while. The good news is that I saw singing Yellowhammer and Willow Warbler which are both notable these days. I also heard a Cuckoo which seem to be throughout the Surrey hills this year. On a less positive note was the evident defoliation of a lot of Oaks on the Heath. I assumed the cause would be Oak Processionary Moth but somebody more knowledgeable than I thinks it more likely to be Green Oak Tortrix. I noted more trees in a sad state on the way home so it appears to be a widespread issue this year. The mothtrap wasn't amazing but a big fat Privet Hawk was new for the year.
